Dr. Chimenti is a gracious, clear talking and most "patient-friendly" doctor I have ever met - and I've had quite a few doctors in my life. Dr. Chimenti was called in AFTER my first back operation (done by ANOTHER doctor) was deemed by me AND my first doctor as not successful after some 6 months. Dr. Chimenti spent more time with me during our FIRST consult than all the sessions (pre- and post-op) with my first doctor combined! The second operation required re-doing the first plus the introduction of additional screws, longer rods, etc. in my lumbar (spine). Its been a tough road dealing with pain, physical therapy, etc. I see Dr. Chimenti every 6 weeks or so, usually (to date) following an MRI or CAT scan to measure progress. It still amazes me that he'll spend typically 1 hour each followup sessions walking through the test results, observations on my ability to walk, etc. I must also add that his assistant, Janet Mitchell, is a god-send. Always available on the phone and a great front to Dr. Chimenti when he's not readily available due to a scheduled surgery, etc.
Dr. Chimenti has the best bedside manner that I have experienced. He is a skilled physician and gave me such comfort and calm prior to my surgery by patiently addressing all of my questions.
I consider my laser back surgery to be a 100% success thanks to Dr. James Chimenti. Earlier this year, I herniated a disk in my back while coughing (yes it happens!). The horrific pain subsided in about two weeks, after which time I noticed I wasn't walking properly. I was suffering from drop foot, which requires immediate surgical intervention by a neurosurgeon or the damage can be permanent, leaving me unable to walk normally again. Thank goodness I was referred to Dr. Chimenti by RWJ Somerset ER and by my own family doctor. I saw him on Friday for the first time, when he reviewed my MRI and he made the surgery appointment for Tuesday, just 4 days later. There was no time to lose. Surgery was done on an out-patient basis. The surgery took about 1 hour, I was at the facility for about 3-4 hours in total and I walked out unassisted! I had minimal pain in recovery, I followed the regiment of physical therapy suggested, and I now continue with pilates to keep my core strong. My back is pain free and my drop foot and my balance are about 90% improved and still improving. I can't say enough good about Dr. Chimenti's quick diagnosis, recommended treatment plan, and surgical skill. So many people with back problems suffer without considering surgery and others have surgery and still have problems afterwards. I consider myself blessed to have been treated by Dr. Chimenti. If you are suffering with nerve issues in your back, I highly recommend that you call him to see what you can do to relieve your problem. I'm so happy that I did. Thank you Dr. Chimenti.
From the first appointment with Dr. Chimenti until surgery for ACDF level 3 on 5-31-2017, he has been a godsend! His care for me and my needs are so appreciated and I can ask him any question related to my recovery and procedure, he answers all of them. I am very happy, although the recovery is a bit slow, I am confident my MD and I, we've got this :-)
Thank you Dr. Chimenti!
