A double bazz player performing jazz in the Broadway area, a dear friend did damage to his instrument while he was transporting it, a few hours before his gig! Manny Alvarez and Barrie Kolstein were like "emergency room doctors" at their 58th Street/7th Ave. location making the repairs in record time so the double bass was good as new. They were also ready to lend my friend a quality bass from their showroom, if his instrument wasn't ready by the time of his performance. They had him covered with their excellent support.

We needed a two day cello rental in NYC and Kolstein was the best place to work with hands down! Teresa is incredible. Responsive, helpful, detailed. And the cello was ready for us to pick up and easy to drop off. Prices best in town. Great cello. Thank you Kolstein business for outstanding customer service.

Kolstein’s is a string musician’s dream. It’s a rare gem and deserves 10 stars. Incredibly talented, kind, thoughtful, caring and detailed attention goes into everything they do. The instrument availability and selection are unsurpassed. I have purchased instruments and had luthier service on my basses for years here including major and minor repairs. Their turnaround times are amazingly quick, sometimes even same day depending on the amount of work required. I highly recommend a visit to their Manhattan and/or Baldwin locations.
