  I strongly recommend Tai-Zen. The study changed my life. At the school, I learn from the best when it comes to self-defense and my training has helped me in the real world. I have a genuinely deep respect for the instructors. I know that the instructors and the other students at Tai-Zen truly care about me as a person. Beyond the self-defense training which has been so valuable to me, I have also gained much from a mental standpoint. Tai-Zen has helped me be a better person and allowed me to deepen my confidence in myself. Tai-Zen is a one of a kind school for anyone that seeks to learn self-defense and make wonderful friends along the way. Thank you Kyoshi Romeo, you are the best.

  I studied tai-zen for 8-9 years. I had to stop because life pulled me in a different direction. During this time, I learned true self defense, mental discipline, and a love for overcoming difficult challenges. Kyoshi Romeo once said, "if you want my belt, take it". Belts aren't important here, although they do represent the time and level of skill development acquired. Tai Zen is the system of self defense for the thinking human. The person that wants to learn to keep themselves and their family safe, while staying out of jail. If you truly want to learn legitimate techniques from highly highly qualified instructors and class mates, this is the system for you. People of all abilities, backgrounds, and professions are welcome. You WILL develop true self confidence through this system.

  If you are interested in learning a highly effective, practical system of self-defense under master-level instructors who are passionate about teaching and respectful toward their students, I encourage you to check out Tai-Zen. I began training in this system in my late twenties. At that time, I was looking for a school that taught self defense plain and simple. I wasn’t into sports competition or becoming extremely physically fit (all admirable goals but not my goals). I just wanted to be able to feel comfortable handling myself if I or my loved ones ever found ourselves in a situation where we were being physically threatened. Now, twenty some odd years later, between all the ups and downs of raising two children, running my own business and dealing with everything else that life brings, I still find myself looking forward to days when I can attend class and continue improving my skills. Safety is prioritized (the last thing I want to deal with at my age are injuries) and the atmosphere is friendly. I highly recommend checking it out.

  Tai-Zen is truly a defensive system. It does not train you how to attack someone, but only how to defend yourself from someone who is attacking you. I trained there for over 20 years. Not only is the training realistic to real world confrontational situations, but it also trains you how to stay within the boundaries of the law so as not to have any legal or financial ramifications for defending yourself.
  
  The instructors in the Tai-Zen system are not egotistical bullies that try to feed their egos by making their students feel stupid. They are down to earth and treat the students with dignity and respect. Even the students there are down to earth; from the most senior to the newer members of the school.
  
  Nobody wants to leave a class feeling worse about themselves, or “less than” than when they first walked into the class. No martial arts school will stay in business long if they do that.
  
  I’ve been trained by Lenny Romeo, Joe Amorosi, Jack Gladstone and other instructors in that school. I have the utmost respect for them as instructors and as people.
  
  I have been in situations where my Tai-Zen training helped me to protect myself from physical harm. I have been able to walk away unscathed from the altercations I’ve been in. They say knowledge is power, and this brings confidence. If this is what you’re looking for, Tai-Zen is the school where you will find this.

  Tai Zen is a unique experience, a hidden gem if you will. I have studied Tai Zen earlier when I was in my 20's, it was life changing learning self defense.
  Coming back to this area later in life I decided to take it up again and
  I am amazed how this Martial Art has evolved, changed and grown. I have studied other martial arts over time and this is, by far the best I have
  experienced. The Instructors are top notch, Sensei Romeo in Bellmore and Grand Master Howard Tague in Selden are with out peer.
