Awesome resource for beginner Language learners of Taishanese (Hoisanwa). I personally am a beginner and am learning so that my spouse can use his first language at home with me. The course comes with a great textbook full of different types of activities and vocabulary. I showed my spouses aunty the book and she said "Its very authentic Taishanese". For those who don't know how to read Chinese characters, the Wu's phonetic system is very easy to pick up to help with pronunciation and tones.
Uo1-die3 to Edmond, my teacher.
Taking classes with Inspirlang was an absolute pleasure, questions are always answered and you learn a lot of cultural context alongside language! The teaching is definitely passionate and engaging.
The advanced conversational Cantonese courses I have taken at Inspirlang with Jade have been excellent! I first came across Inspirlang when I found one of their podcasts on Spotify "Cantonese Diaspora" - it was my go to podcast while dishwashing at the start of the pandemic, and gave me a new framework to view the global Cantonese community. The conversations were conducted in such a way that felt so accessible and honestly refreshing! I reached out shortly to learn about classes and remember the 15 min virtual coffee chat I had with Jade to evaluate what level class I should take. I felt so seen in that short time span, and taken seriously as someone who wanted to really work on my Cantonese. The classes have exceeded my expectations! The amount of new vocabulary I've acquired and also all the opportunities to have continuous conversation and practice in a non-judgmental space with peers has been invaluable especially during the pandemic where virtual connection feels fatigued. Jade is a truly caring individual, community building, and very skilled educator & linguist. I love seeing all the pieces of Inspirlang she has built out across the Chinese dialects, books + podcasts, social media resources, and language classes. If you've been thinking about whether or not to take a class, I recommend just do it, you won't regret it!
There are classes for all levels! It was so fun learning with a group of people that are also interested in learning and interested in the language. Jade also knows languages very well and is always able to break down definitions in a way to make it very easy to understand because she also understands American (or Occidental) mentality.
Whether you want to start from scratch or trying to get to that fluency level, you won't be disappointed.
10/10 would recommend! (Actually I already did )
I took the Cantonese course with Jade and I highly recommend it for anyone who’s looking to improve their language skills. The course was fun, engaging, and the instructor created a positive learning environment. Perfect for anybody looking to improve their Cantonese!
