Kissena Velodrome

One of the best tracks in the world. For the vibes, of course. The surface.. well, it's an outdoor track in Queens, it'll make you a better rider! That's for sure.

Couldn’t give it a fifth star because it’s bumpy on the banked turns (which on my inexpensive bike means somewhat uncomfortable), but that’s a very solvable problem, and it’s really just amazing that this place exists. It’s a real testament—much like the Astoria Park pool—to how much New York City (and Queens in particular in these cases) prizes providing high-quality public places that are open to everyone. I know we get used to it after awhile, but honestly folks, there aren’t many cities in this country that have stuff like this and the aforementioned pool just lying around, usable without paying any fee or joining any private club.

It’s definitely worth checking out; it’s certainly the first time I’ve ever ridden my bike on a velodrome, and I very much doubt it will be the last.
