I am surprised by some of the negative reviews here. My review is not for urgent care but for actual doctors sick and well visits at Rye, Harrison and Ridge Hill locations. I can not comment on the urgent care experience.
I agree with the calling service - it is difficult to call a doctor's office directly - you do need to call a 1-800 number - but I have generally found that the call center staff answering the phone are courteous and helpful. I agree that sometimes the wait times for certain doctors seem excessive, but that is probably a result of patients putting off appointments during COVID, not a comment about the quality of care by Westmed doctors. They do have a way to prioritize and leave a message for your doctor. You can also message your doctor and their staff through the portal. Many doctors work very long hours to personally respond to your messages. That's actually amazing care!
Overall I have found that the vast majority of interactions with Westmed staff has been extremely positive. Most Westmed staff are courteous and professional. I can only recall one check in where I thought the staff could have been a bit friendlier but that was not typical at all.
Regarding the lab staff, I have been to Rye and Harrison for many blood tests and have found their staff to be kind and efficient. They did have a mix up once in an order so perhaps Westmed can look into the general staffing and their practices, but also haven't people read the news, there is a lack of staffing across the country? Have a little patience and give the medical staff that have worked tirelessly through COVID years some grace and appreciation. They risked their lives to keep all of us safe.
I do not agree with unclean facilities, that just seems like a ridiculous comment. I have never experienced that.
Regarding the wait times, I work full time and I know how frustrating it can be to wait for an appointment, but I also know how hard it is to find competent doctors and I try to adjust my expectations accordingly. Our wait times have never been extensive except in a few minor situations, one doctor in particular but his overall treatment was excellent.
I am a patient of Dr. Ian Yarett, Dr. Sara Elias, and Dr. Jaret Feldman, located at Rye and Harrison locations. I have also been seen by other doctors within Westmed, not all of whom I will list here. I have found all of my doctors to be highly qualified, knowledgeable, professional and extremely patient. I am also a patient of some doctors at NYU for comparison. While Westmed is a smaller group, they are generally caring and do not rush their patients, something that you will not get in all medical practices. So while you may wait a bit longer in the waiting room remember that it may have been because the doctors and staff in the room were giving a patient the extra care and treatment that they needed, and when they give you that extra care be sure to thank them and then write a more balanced review. For the overly negative reviewers, I suggest you take some yoga classes or get more regular exercise and take your anger out on people other than medical doctors and staff.
Also, I have had zero billing issues. It may be the fault of your insurance companies, not the hospital...just a thought.
One item I think Westmed can improve is the actual portal useability - consider making an app for phones. I do agree that this is not ideal for older patients and if my mom was a patient here I would have to do the portal for her.
Everyone has their own experience. Personally I’ve never had a problem with any staff or appointments here. Dr. Laura Macbeth and Dr. Barbara Coven are the sweetest people I’ve dealt with . I would recommend pediatrics to every parent. Not sure how other services are but I’ve had a great experience and never waited long after check in at the pediatricians.
