Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center

Branding aside, this rest stop is a good place to take a break from driving. In Covid times, it is not busy, and the indoor facilities look credible from the outside. Outdoor areas were well kept. There is a dog run. This rest stop for car drivers also features hiking trails and even a dock for boaters who are navigating the swamp waterways. Last note, nature lovers can get a feel of the look and sound of the swamp from the safe distance of the parking lot. The natural beauty even attracted in this reviewer's experience a young love photo shoot with the Dismal Swamp as backdrop.

ALWAYS such a beautiful place to stop. If you listen carefully you can almost hear Washington & his men passing buy from the days of the Revolution! The swamp passageway was a real turning point during the war. 🎆 🇺🇸

As of March 2021, the Welcome Center is open, but most of the displays inside the Welcome Center are closed (probably about 80 percent). You can chat with a worker, look at a map of the park, and see a few displays about local wildlife. However, the displays relating to the early history of the Dismal Swamp and the history of the canal itself are closed.
