“As a 30 year K-12 Arts Educator and Principal/Assistant Principal, I have found Hickory Day School an exceptional place to teach Arts Education. I teach 130 students in K-8 and have found the students to be warm, engaging and extremely talented in visual art. In addition, their thought process and creative energy with some of the more upper level assignments I have been giving them to accomplish is nothing short of stunning. One thing I've learned as a career educator is you can always find something that needs "fixing" if you look hard enough. I have also learned it is very easy to simply blame the students. However, from my perspective, these young minds need more lifting up, more encouragement and more positive energy put in front of them on a daily basis. I have always felt extremely lucky and blessed to have been born an artist and to have become an art educator. Teaching at Hickory Day School has allowed me to continue my passion. I look forward to great things from these creative and innovative young minds. This is truly a special place to be.”
