I was very grateful for the visitors center during my visit in Hillsborough. I walked around the town and on the Riverwalk a lot, and it was nice to have easy access to clean restrooms and a water bottle filling spot! The lady inside the visitors center was friendly when I stopped in. Glad to see an old building that was preserved and is being used.
Enjoyed our stop at the visitor center. The historic buildings and garden were restful. We had lunch at the picnic tables on site.
Greatly enjoyed our experience! Got to learn some history, swap some stories, and was pointed towards a great to explore/eat! Definitely recommend stopping by on your way into town.
Stop here first. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The 7-minute video is a MUST. Great items to purchase. Bought a couple of interesting books, postcards and walked away with some brochures about the local sites.
My wife and I are new to the area, so we stopped by to learn about Hillsborough. The young lady in there, I think her name was Ann, from Chapel Hill, had studied History, was so warm, friendly and informative. We talked about the history of the area for quite awhile, and even discussed Silent Sam. Since General Johnston stayed in the house the Visitor Center is in during his surrender to General Sherman, we discussed both men and she was well informed about Sherman, she had read a book about him.
I highly recommend anyone stop there even if you are just visiting for the day or, like my wife and I, have moved to the area. You will learn about all of the great historic sites in Hillsborough, get pamphlets, and learn about upcoming events.
