My husband made a payment on his credit card account before the due date. Imagine our surprise when we get a call 11 days later from their collections center stating that we haven't made payment and they have accessed a late fee. This is bad because our account is 0% interest for a specified period, as long as the payments are made on time. We gave the caller the information from the receipt and he told us WE needed to do the leg work because they would just keep callling! He told us in his opening statement the conversation might be recorded. I hope it was because after my husband stated the payment was made at the local branch, he responded, "... a payment by mail takes 7-10 days!"
I have read the positive blogs for this branch which gives me hope that they will be able to resolve this matter quickly. The agent I spoke with was courteous and promised me a return call today.
They have already called back (within an hour) and stated everything will be corrected. A problem with how the payment was applied.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if we receive anymore calls from collections and if the next statement shows the corrections.

We have over the years since this post, continued to do business with Fifth Third, including a mortgage.
They did correct their error with the credit card and I like that they do not sell their mortgages.

Chris helped get me onboarded with the 53 mortgage people after my loan was transferred to 53 from another servicer. Chris was pleasant, knowledgeable, and helpful.
I cannot render an opinion on the retail or commercial bank. No experience.
I can render an opinion on the onboarding of a mortgage servicing client. I would rate that process as substandard for so many reasons. We'll see how the ongoing servicing goes.
