Blessed to visit this precious place where so many of my Gilliland family is buried. Humbled to be part of such a godly family. Can’t wait to join them for all eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ!
Many of my ancestors are buried in this cemetery. They were part of the underground railroad. The church is a beautiful peaceful place to worship our GOD and all people who enter are blessed.
The display inside the church of Aunt Jemima is a great tribute to this women. I hope it's still there. Today (6/20/20), it's sad some people are trying to destroy the accomplishments of this woman.
The last time I visited the church and cemetery was 1982.
My ancestor Reverend James Gilliland, Minister of Red Oak was an early abolitionist and founder of The Underground Railroad in Ripley, this Church is a Holy place and bastion of freedom.
When you drive in to the parking lot, it feels like you've come home ,after a long journey.
Standing as a beacon of Gods everlasting grace for over 200 years. The stone walls of laid up rock, are a witness to the fortitude of our ancestors , who without mechanical assistance built this structure.
Historic church and cemetery located just south of Georgetown, in Brown County.. Vsited this day to scope out Aunt Jemima's grave site, and found so much more. Started in 1799( oldest in county) the church is on NRHP, and old part of graveyard contains revolutionary war vets graves. The church secretary was there to turn on furnace and shared some interesting facts about the church and burial grounds. Definitely worth a stop for those enjoy living history.
