Great training and a family-friendly atmosphere. Just good people running it. They don't give out belts - you earn them. Sensei Kim's legacy lives on.
Japanese Karate-Do is a great place to go if you want to train in Shotokan karate, make great friends and get a challenging workout. Kim Sensei and the senior (Sempai) black belts are great to work with and learn from. They will challenge you to learn correct technique while preparing you for real world application of this self-defense martial art. They also manage to do so while maintaining a friendly, supportive atmosphere that you will come to love and respect. The dojo feels like a second home after a while!
Kim Sensei is great at explaining the mechanics of the techniques that he teaches and why they are performed that way. He also explains variations in the technique and you sometimes get a tidbit about the history of certain aspects of the art.
Not only will you have a great experience fellowshipping and learning karate in the dojo, but there are also cross training sessions and special clinics held fairly regularly. These sessions will help you towards your overall fitness goals and challenge you to dive deeper into the art. Kim Sensei also invites guest instructors and trainers to the dojo from time to time.
Look no further for a karate home. This is where you want to be.
This place is awesome. I took TaeKwonDo when I was younger but I've been out of martial arts for a few decades and wanted to get back into it. I found this place on google and LOVE it. Sensei Kim has brought me right back to the discipline I've been missing for a long time. The workouts are simple, straightforward, and very effective. If you're a novice, intermediate, or just want to try something new, this is definitely the place!!!
We have our 7-year old son learning Karate here. Great experience, great energy and discipline. Sensei Kim, Jessica and the rest of the crew are great. The place is pretty good, feels like home. If you haven't been there and are interested in Karate, stop for a demo class.
