My wife Karen and I have been members of Sycamore Pres for a number of years. We both participate in the Chancel Choir, and I am currently serving my second term as a Ruling Elder. Karen & I received wonderful support recently from many of Sycamore's ministries when I suffered a serious injury and was incapacited for a while. Sycamore is a community where members look out for each other, support one another during difficult times, and who regularly raise up Christ as our Lord and Savior.
I have the honor of serving as Sycamore's Lead Pastor, so I'll admit my bias in leaving a review :) Having been here since March of 2021, let me say that I truly adore this congregation. Yes, we have a beautiful Sanctuary and lovely facilities. But what makes our spaces beautiful is that we USE them for God's glory, day in and day out.
Sycamore has been an established worshipping community since the 1790's: we've been doing ministry here since before the State of Ohio existed! We've gathered ourselves around God's Word on the corner of Mason and Montgomery since the 1848.
Sycamore Presbyterian is a faith community; the church is the people. And our people are actively involved at all levels of the church's ministry and mission.
Worship at Sycamore is a holy and wondrous thing. In terms of worship "style," we're mostly traditional, with time-honored hymns, organ, piano, and choral selections. We also sing more contemporary praise music, because we recognize that different people resonate with different musical forms. We are a liturgical congregation: meaning that our worship is structured with communal readings, congregational hymns, scripture readings, prayers, and the reciting of certain historical and ecumenical creeds. We celebrate the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of every month, and all are welcomed.
We have all the routine church opportunities one might expect: small groups, Bible studies, fellowship and affinity groups, teams that do hands-on service and ministry, etc. Leaders in the church serve on the church board (session), and as Deacons, and on a number of different committees that plan and implement much of the activities that happen throughout the year. We have programs and classes for people of all ages, all designed to help people become better disciples of Jesus. We'd love to help you take the next step in your walk of faith--no matter whether you're a cradle Christian, or new to the whole Jesus thing.
We are a tithing congregation: meaning that 10% of Sycamore's annual budget goes right back out the door, supporting local, national, and international missions. We're actively engaged in local mission work, and enjoy long-term partnerships with a long list of other helping organizations.
And, most importantly, God is not done developing us as a congregation. God's is still working with us, forming us, shaping us; and that is truly exciting. There is an openness and receptivity to the movement of God's Spirit here that is inspiring. And there are a hundreds of ways that you can become more involved in the work God is doing through Sycamore Presbyterian.
Come on by! Worship with us. Introduce yourself to me before or after the services. Maybe God is leading you towards Sycamore, and that's something to celebrate!
My family has been attending Sycamore for many years and it has become our church “Home”. The recent additions have made Sycamore even more inviting!
I have attended Sycamore Presbyterian Church for almost twelve years. This church has truly become my second family. In researching other churches to see what they have to offer, I am amazed by the number of small group activities and Bible studies SPC offers compared to other churches. There are options available almost every day of the week, some during the day, some at night and some on Sundays. The sermons are meaningful and the music wonderful. If you are looking for new place to worship, give Sycamore Presbyterian Church a try and feel like you've come home.
Our daughter just had her wedding at the church and it was BEAUTIFUL! Rev. Reddick and the staff were amazing to work with. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful in that stunning chapel.
