“I had to sadly have one of my two chickens put down, and I brought her body to the Division of Animal Health for testing. Despite not being a commercial farmer - this was my pet - everyone was very empathetic and helpful. In particular, pathologist Dr. Craig Sarver was amazing. Took me back into a room to go over the process, was so kind, informative and reassuring. He not only took a lot of time out of his day to walk me through everything, but offered advice, gave me a list of vets who will treat chickens, and gave me his card in case I had other questions. He thoroughly reviewed the situation and told me what tests were unnecessary in order to keep costs down. All together, it was only $34 for an hour of his time and everything he was going to have to do for the necropsy. I can't thank them enough.”

For the farm share, they provide recipes so you can explore seasonal veggies with confidence. Veggies from commercial big box store are tasteless but Sunbeam is full of flavors. The have a lot of pick up locations for their CSA program. They have weekly or biweekly pick up. Biweekly pick up is perfect for 2 people.”

When they say — in any other restaurant’s typically self-promotional fashion — that “you get a lot of food,” Black Bear Diner separates itself from the herd by delivering on their extraordinary promise. And not only is it a lot of food. It is GREAT food. That’s another promise they make, and another promise they deliver on. I had the hobo omelette with a biscuit and fresh-squeezed orange juice. (Coffee, of course.) The 3-egg omelette was packed with meat and definitely made from three eggs from very large chickens. The country potatoes were delicious and perfectly browned. And the biscuit was the size of most of the cushion stool tops you’ll find in many of the casinos here in Vegas. Go. Go. P.S. Parents: for years when our kids were young, my wife used to say, “why don’t restaurants serve butter that is either softened and ready to spread or offer to have the kitchen butter kids’ pancakes so that they’re ready to eat when they get on the table. They could even charge a surcharge and people would pay it.” Black Bear Diner has whipped butter, which for you parents will be a lifesaver when your kids’ pancakes come and they want to eat them hot.”
