I learned to fly there 33 years ago and have been flying general aviation, experimental, and Ultra Lights ever since. It's a 2200 foot Runway about 50 ft wide asphalt and if you learn to fly there it's no challenge although people who learn to fly at larger airports are somewhat intimidated by this at first. Night Landings can be a challenge in a high-performance aircraft because of the trees on the North End of the runway and they need to come in kind of high so you have to plan accordingly. Since it's probably the cheapest place in Ohio to learn to fly there is a lot of Student Activity.
Great place to learn to fly! All the people at the airport and super nice and very friendly. Runway is a little tricky but as they say here: "If you can land at SkyPark you can land anywhere".
The best and I mean THE BEST airport to learn to fly. Thanks to Skypark, I was able to solo an airplane on my 16th birthday and get my license on my 17th! The instructors are some of the nicest people you will meet and they will do whatever it takes to help you achieve your flying goals.
Best value in the world for flight training and obtaining your pilots license. I've been to 2 other flight schools prior to finding Skypark and I fervently wish that I had found them sooner; their instructors are there to teach you flying skills and mold you into a capable pilot-not so they can build hours and apply for airline positions as most other flight school instructors...these guys are lifelong aviators that have flown everything from F14s to tailwings, and the best part(aside from the low-cost) is they get you ready and finished..if you're eager to have that certificate, they'll let you fly 2-3 times a day and let you stay in a room at the airport to boot!
Learned to fly here and got my private pilots license back in 1971, Dan Weltzien was my instructor. They don't make them like that anymore. Fabulous memories of flying club trips all over the U.S. Mexico and the Bahamas. Hours and hours of great "hangar talk" at the airport day after day and year after year. Dan, Virginia, Bruce, Patty, Glenn, the list goes on and on. You had to be there in those early years to understand the love of it all. Some of the best memories of my life! Mixture rich at all times!!!
