Great museum. People need to remember for the size of the town and the content in the museum it's pretty good size. Is it ran totally on private donations if so people need to know this. This could also be why there is not a bigger staff. Please consider this when you visit. It's a small town museum not a big town one with that in mind it's a great place to go to.
The museum is small, but interesting. The governor’s mansion was interesting as well. There was no docent available in the mansion for questions on the day we went and only one staff member that I saw in the museum. This was a stop-over on the way to the Pawnee Bill Ranch and it was a nice little detour. It’s a neat stop if you are interested in Oklahoma history.
Great way to spend an hour maybe 2. Fun road trip from OKC to see a small part of rural Oklahoma. As far as the museum it's mostly late 1800 exhibits focusing a lot on the Oklahoma Land Run. Also part of the entrance price is you get to tour the Seay Mansion which was built in 1893. They say the mansion is haunted which is awesome. I noticed when I was inside the mansion by myself when the heater kicked on the piano strings vibrated. Could have been a coincidence or the woman who supposedly haunts the house. Who knows, still awesome.
Went recently to the Traditional Trades day; we had a blast! The staff were so kind and patient with my daughter, but firm and respectful on things like "No you may not use the saw," or "Hang on, Miss, let me finish" There's so much to see and interact with and my overly-curious six-year-old HAS to touch everything; these guys handled it like pros and made sure she had a super safe and fun visit :)
Great little museum of a very important chapter in the history of the American Frontier. Unfortunately, they were renovating when I came in, so some parts of the museum were inaccessible, but I was still able to poke around and see the special exhibit I came to see. It's a bit of a hike from OKC, but it's good to see a community like Kingfisher have this attraction. Recommended for history buffs in the OKC area, go support this institution!
