Oh boy, went to the Rodeo... They were on fire tonight! The food came out fast and in such large portions. My son's burger was juicy and perfectly prepared. The Chicken fried steak and the Bacon chicken ranch sandwich was on point. Of course, I peppered it before I took the pic. The server tonight did such an incredible show. Got my family and I, WELL taken care of. I think her name was Angi... Mr. Eldon, I have to thank you for the experience... Well Done!

    This ain’t no goat roping.
This is an authentic Mexican restaurant that leans more towards the Tex-Mex than traditional Mexican food. If you are not into the new American food, then for you, they offer old time rural ethnic diner food, like hamburgers, chicken fried steak, okra, and chicken strips.

Mexican food is the new American food. Mexican restaurants are multiplying like the late summer web worms in the August trees of Oklahoma. If you don’t like Mexican food and you are traveling across rural Oklahoma, you will starve if you don’t have a granola bar and a banana in your glove box. in some small towns your only other option is a blistered wiener off the roller grill at the gas station. Mexican food everywhere is the new normal. For sure in Oklahoma, diner food is becoming history. Just a memory like the recipes found in the old Southern Living cook book your grandma had.

What is really strange about the Rodeo’s set up is that it is like a small-town road side diner, not a Mexican joint. The rural theme is rodeo, as the name implies. Memorabilia, shiny barn tin covered walls, trimmed with patriotic red white and blue fans all around, emphasize that theme. The TV has bull riding and roping playing continuously. It doesn’t stop there. The service matches the old school diner motif, with prompt friendly attention from waitresses, that are all probably named Flo. If your name is not “sugar” it will be here. Your check is hand written and you pay up front on the way out. Don’t forget to put a tooth pick in your mouth before you walk out the door, or you will look like a tourist. The strange part, this is a Mexican food restaurant, that also puts out large plates of equally delicious diner food.

Perfect salsa, crispy chips and a spot-on salsa picante (ask for it) kept our hands and mouths busy while studying the menu. My wife can’t pass up an Indian taco. That is what she had. Excellent, but Mexican food for me. The # 2, a beef taco. a cheese filled relleno and a beef enchilada with red sauce. The meal was plenty of food but, it did not come with beans and rice. I ordered a side of beans to fully evaluate the kitchen staff’s expertise. All perfect. The picture describes the food better than I can with words.

Talking with the owner while settling up the bill, I was curious how they could do such a good job with the two styles of food offered on the large menu. She informed me that there were actually two kitchens in the restaurant. A necessity.

The superb experienced cook, running the Mexican side of the restaurant is, well let me explain it this way, “this ain’t his first Rodeo.”

This is the best restaurant in Okmulgee period …prove me wrong.

Have heard about this place for weeks. Friends told me the chicken fried steak was the best they have ever had and they were not kidding. Best chicken fried steak I have ever had and the homemade pies are wonderful. Great service and reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

This is an awesomely design restaurant. I'm country as all get out but I like clean and that it was. Friendly atmosphere. I didn't see one cowboy of color on those walls, so I'm not so sure about the signage out front, but this is Oklahoma. It was still safe to enter and dine.

One of the best chicken fried steak I've had. Big pile of mashed potatoes and gravy. Roll was okay, dinner salad was minimal (lettuce, cheese, slice of tomato) but but pretty much what I expected. Food came out quickly and service was very good. Comfortable, laid back, family friendly atmosphere. Very good place for lunch. Will be back.
