Had a great experience at this winery and the views were incredible. Also, the winery is beautifully setup. We enjoyed the lunch and the wines. Hugh was our server and sommelier and was very informative about the region and wines in general. Highly recommend stopping by when you are in the area.
The Solena tasting room is beautiful and the setting is fantastic. And yes, all of the tasting room staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines they produce. Particularly Al Richbourg, who has an impressive knowledge of the of local wine scene, and is one of the nicest guys in the business.
But the real reason to visit Solena is the wine, which is arguably some of the best produced in Oregon. Laurent is one of the most talented and prolific winemakers in the Willamette Valley. After perfecting his craft at wineries in France and Napa, he joined Willakenzie Estate for several years before opening Solena in 2003, and also creates equally excellent wines at Hyland Estates. I’ve visited several wineries in the valley in my 25 years in the PDX area, and none are better, which is why I’m a wine club member for life.
Thanks Laurent and team!
Excellent wine and very cozy tasting room. You can see a neighboring vineyard and lake from the patio and a nice secluded wooded area next to the building with more seating and a fire pit for when it's cooler. The winery's vineyard is up the hill and the owners live up that same hill. The pours are also more than generous for the tastings. Definitely a place to stop by while enjoying wine country!
