“20 years ago I had a grand mal seizure and they found I have an AVM in my brain. I had gamma knife surgery to address it. I moved from Tennessee to York where new neurologist was fine, but after a while it was apparent s/he wasn't very on the ball. S/he left the practice and on the way out of my last appt said my MRI showed a little bit of activity in my AVM...but that was it. I was referred to Dr. Heck. Thank goodness. He took one look at my MRI and came storming into the exam room and asked if I had a family, kids, wanted to have a long life. Uh, yeah...? "Well your AVM is back and you need to make a decision: you either live the rest of your life with the 20% chance of having another big seizure but this time with brain hemorrhage and death...or we get you on a schedule to do another brain surgery." Yikes. I took his advice, had a successful surgery, and now only need to do yearly followups. I never give 5 stars to anything (because nothing is perfect) but considering the fact that I'm still alive, I'll give him a 4.”
