Made a quick stop for our first visit to this bakery and it did not disappoint! We arrived late afternoon so some of their items were gone but they still had plenty of things to choose from. We got some macaroons, bread pudding and croissants. Everything had great taste and were baked to perfection! I will definitely be back to sample more!
Soooo good. Delicious. French, fancy, tasty. They have a constant great variety and seasonal treats as well.
La Gourmandine is a local French bakery chain, and it is definitely one of the best in the area. My husband and I have really enjoyed every tart and croissant that we have bought from them. They also sell sandwiches, quiches, cakes, and breads, which I might someday try. I think that the prices are very reasonable for the high quality. The employees have promptly and politely greeted me, carefully packaged my foods, accurately processed my payment, and thanked me and wished me a great day. The only negative about this business is the location in an area that has street parking and lots of traffic.
On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, La Gourmandine Bakery put me in mind of the book, A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf. It's reckoning and self-knowing.
Full disclosure: I ordered takeout through GrubHub, but I was highly delighted with the Lemon Tart, Almond Croissant, and Bacon & Parmesan Baguette that arrived on my doorstep.
Every bite was decadence and I'm so very delighted that this bakery exists throughout Pittsburgh, offering that quintessential French experience to us all. The Almond Croissant offer that buttery flakey yet creamy experience while the Lemon Tart was sassy, sour, and delicious. Now, if I were to do the baguette in the future, I would pair it with a saucy soup such as tomato.
Do yourself a favor and order yourself an afternoon snack from La Gourmandine!
Coming from a culture where it’s so common to find pastries and fresh bread, a visit to La Gourmandine is like going home for one hour. They have a wide range of tasty treats such as croissants, baguettes, among other items. It’s also cool to see that they’ve expanding their stores and having this one in Hazelwood.
