Amazing people. Very welcoming to new folks and to those more experienced with HEMA. Fun and nerdy way to get a seriously great workout.
This club has very friendly members who give warm welcomes to the newer members. The instructors are very patient to their students while learning new techniques. The club feels like a new family. The classes are fun and can be exhausting if you aren't in complete shape but no worries because you aren't required to be in physical shape! The best part about the club is def the sword fighting!
SCHF is a great place to learn Longsword from scratch. There are a lot of Sword tournaments and Social events in which you can participate and fight people of various levels from various schools across Ohio, WV etc, and get to meet a lot of history buffs.

Recently, I signed up for their beginner's course on the German longsword. Tuesday was my first day. Regrettably I was ten minutes late getting through the door. It didn't matter too too much, as they integrated me with the group quickly and comfortably.
The lessons themselves were clear and concise with an emphasis on learning through doing and lots of practice! I went in thinking this would be a more lighthearted class. I was pleasantly surprised to see them taking it as seriously as they do!
Overall 5/5 experience. I felt included, informed, and I had a ton of fun.
I have had a very good experience at Steel City Historical Fencing. It is an organization where one could learn a martial art (European sword fighting), while getting a good, well balanced physical workout.
The classes are set in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere, with enough professionalism and structure to provided proper training without feeling like you’re in a boring class or attending a work seminar.
The instructors each have skill sets and teaching techniques which differ slightly to provide different approaches to learning. I’ve gleaned different insights from the same lesson when being taught by different instructors. I believe this to one of the many strengths to Steel City Historical Fencing.
Lastly, they do not provide any services related to the installation or maintenance of the physical structures known as fences. If you’re looking for a barrier to keep your dog in the yard, this is not it.
