Bill is the best hands down. Knowledgeable in everything you need.
Very professional, great price for course, great prices for equipment. Very safe. No hidden fees. They love what they do and you can tell. I will be back for my advanced certification and will have my young son certified with them once he turns 10.
Bill & Jeanne are professionals within their profession. They know their stuff! Excellent instructors. They are not pushy with sales yet have what you need. Their prices beat web-based stores. My family & I have gone back many times for advice/equipment. I'm getting advanced training through them & am sure that they will be just as thorough like the first time. I highly recommend these folks without reservation. P.S. Those other negative reviews could be not be further from the truth. I have never witnessed anything close to what was described. Those are bogus reviews.
I have been diving around the world since the early 90's and have met a lot of people, dive masters, instructors, owners, students, in my travels. I would rate Bill and Jeanne on the top of the list as having excellent work ethic, concern for their students comfort, integrity, concern for their students finances, and overall concern that the student walks away with the proper training to be at the skill level and knowledge level that they need to be at to enjoy the sport of scuba diving at the level that the student, dive master or instructor has reached.
Bill and Jeanne have analyzed the sport and developed very good tactics for instruction. Their years of diving and teaching have given them a unique perspective into the world of diving that few people will be able to give you at this time in the diving community.
My view on Bill's supposed suggestions for equipment is the following: I have been the student who was pinching pennies and unable to purchase the gadgets that were not immediately necessary and have since graduated to being someone who needs to wisely plan my purchases. What I can tell you is that Bill is simply excited about the sport, in fact loves it, he knows about the equipment, how it works and how all of the equipment fits together and the proper way to use it. I am thankful for this knowledge as it gives me the opportunity to know about what is out there and how to properly use these tools and to make and educated decision for myself whether I need a tool or not. Bill is always willing to dig through his equipment to help you properly attach your regulator etc. and is also willing to hear no I cannot afford this at this time. Why is it necessary to know about these options? Because then you know what is out there. And you can have educated discussions with others with the passion about the Sport of Scuba Diving.
My recommendation is that Downey Diving is an excellent dive shop.
And when I started with this shop I was very nervous because I didn't know anyone at this shop and I can tell you that every one of the instructors, dive masters and owners were professional and kind and I am grateful for their assistance and suggestions.
Bill & Jeanne are excellent instructors and have made my life long dream a reality. I can't say enough good things about them and how they run their business. Bill takes the time to help with any purchase a customer is considering and provides lots of good advice in regards to equipment, both pro and con. When it comes to a dive trip with Downy Diving it's like traveling with family as they look after their customers when diving and on land. I have and will continue to recommend them to others.
