Christine was an amazing host. The wine and cheese welcome was much appreciated. Breakfast was perfect. Loved staying in the home of Oscar Hammerstein. I’ve been a fan of his music and musicals for decades. I could not believe that I was actually sitting on the porch where he wrote the lyrics to “Oklahoma”. We stayed in the South Pacific Room which was Oscar’s master suite. I could go on and on but it’s best if you experience Highland Farm for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
Beautiful historical place.
I've stayed at Highland Farm twice, once during the winter and the second in early summer. There was only one other couple staying the recent weekend we were there so at many points we enjoyed the quiet of the Inn, especially in the Sound of Music room with the grand piano and the fireplace, the room where Oscar Hammerstein hosted parties and musical events and entertained guests such as Stephen Sondheim. My girlfriend and I stayed in the South Pacific room, Oscar Hammerstein’s bedroom, which has a private bath and a wood fireplace (on our previous visit we stayed in The King and I). The complimentary wine and cheese reception and the delicious hearty breakfast the innkeeper provides helps make for a wonderful stay (she accommodated a gluten free diet). And Doylestown has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants, including Genevieve's and Honey, and museums. My understanding is that the Inn will be converted into a museum celebrating Hammerstein's life and legacy in late 2020, so the Inn will remain open to guests through the end of 2020. In sum it was another delightful visit to the home where Oscar Hammerstein wrote all of his great songs in Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific, and other Broadway classics.
Very beautiful and Historical bed and breakfast. Christine is very welcoming and a fantastic cook. Saw 3 red fox and a buck in the yard. Hammerstein wrote lots of lyrics for musicals here in his former home including Sound of Music, Oklahoma, South Pacific and more
Wow! What a great three night visit at the former Oscar Hammerstein's home. On the second night I heard the grand piano playing a show tune! Hoped it was Oscar's ephemeral essence, turned out to be a songwriter on his first visit to Highland House.
The gracious proprietress, Ms. Christine Cole, was a perfect blend of charm, wit, and historical knowledge of Mr. Hammerstein, his family, and the home he lived for 20 years, raised children, and wrote many of his theatrical productions.
