I cannot speak on today's teaching environment at the school, but only of my old memories at this great school from 60 years ago! My attendance was in 1958-1963.
Times were clearly quite more innocent back then. Playing marbles on the side of the school was very entertaining during recess for many of us. Or we enjoyed the swing sets to the west of the school near the woods. During 5th & 6th grade, I used to be a patrol boy on one of the school buses watching over my fellow school kids on my route to/from my home on Oberg Hill. I was very proud to be one.
I recollect the teachers were fair, kind, and dedicated to helping the students get a good start in life teaching the basics of getting ahead.
In the winter of 1963 while in 6th grade, my family moved to warmer Los Angeles. What I found was my school skills learned at Buffalo Township were almost a year ahead of those in my new California school.
Even though this message comes 55 years late, thank you to all of the teachers and principal back then for helping me begin to learn about myself and teach me the steps to reach my early goals in life. I achieved my career goals and am now about to retire while enjoying life in Arizona.
I absolutely love Buffalo Elementary. The teachers and support staff are phenomenal and it shows by how they interact with the children. The teachers my daughter has had truly care about her overall well-being (not just her academic ability). I can't say enough positive things about the guidance counselor, Mrs. Vaughn; my daughter is blessed to have her in her life. I am also beyond impressed with the emphasis on music and arts in education. When other schools are struggling to keep programs, there is such a strong emphasis on creativity and the arts.
