This restaurant is fantastic. The staff is so nice. The food is out of this world!! There are tons of vegan and gluten-free options. I would HIGHLY recommend vegetable pakora, samosas, chana masala, tandoori roti, Gobi Manchurian, and all of the chutneys! These are just some of my favorites but I might as well list the whole menu because absolutely everything they serve is delicious.
Pittsburgh area TOP THREE INDIAN RESTAURANT AND for the buffet goers this is the BEST INDIAN BUFFET you’ll most celebrate enjoy. It’s a lovely cozy restaurant with excellent service.
The menu is an assortment of great food from the subcontinent, unlike the usual Punjabi-style that much of America sees. Remarkably, they have judicious use of spices and chilies that one can truly savor different curries (wet or dry); none of that in-your-face pungent smell so common in many indian eateries that shuts the gustatory senses.
If you can’t decide on a starter, go for the Sampler. It’s an excellent selection of crispy hors d’oeuvres: veg samosa, lentil donut, pakoras.
All their Tandoori meats are excellent, juicy not the boiled and fried types. My recommendations: Subtly fragrant tandoori salmon, paired with Baingan Bharta (curried roasted eggplant) and Okra Fry (crispy without the batter, softly spiced).
The lunch buffet on Sundays is a delight: pleasing to sight, lovely fragrance and a variety of flavors. The selections are wonderful array of Indian savories from North to South, some are not listed in the regular menu. I’m partial to the Idli & Sambhar, Mixed Vegs (dry curry), Vegetable Korma, Chicken fingers (dipped in chutney), mutton curry. Instead of rice, there’s the charred naan and desi fryums to scoop the curries. — it’s simply the best Indian buffet I had in a large in long while.
Really tasty Indian food in Cranberry. I didn't order much today, but everything I had was more than satisfactory. Today's order consisted of channa bhatura (chickpea curry with large puffy bread) and kheer.
The actual chickpea curry itself was very good. I'm sure the full channa masala meal is also amazing because of that. The sauce has just the right amount of spice for me, which is great because I couldn't find a way to add spice levels online. There were large chunks of chickpeas in the curry and it was not too oily. Its toppings were interesting: cilantro and raw onions. Not a huge fan of the onions. The portion of the curry is a bit small, too.
The bhatura bread, on the other hand, was very large. And as the description said, it was pretty puffy! Some parts of the bread were on the oily side, while others were more crispy. I think it was overall near perfect. It's especially delicious if you warm it up; then, the flavorful oil as well as salt is more apparent which I enjoy. It also gets a bit more crunchy when warmed.
I loved the kheer. Normally, my go to Indian dessert is gulab jamun. But, I heard Tamarind's gulab jamuns are very small and not worth the price. The kheer portion was fair for the price (not small, not large). It was super creamy and sweet! I loved the addition of whole nuts, like cashews, and raisins as well as some other almost juicy fruit.
Overall, I definitely have Tamarind on my Cranberry radar. The food isn't overly expensive and it's high quality. Although I didn't try much, I can still say this is a solid restaurant and one that I'd recommend.
Tamarind is a casual Indian restaurant. Their menu lists numerous tasty-sounding appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks. Prices are reasonable. Two employees provided prompt and courteous service to my husband and me. We enjoyed the taste of our samosa chat, malai kofta, butter chicken, and naan, but we felt so-so about the taste of the chicken sangrila. I would definitely return to this restaurant in the future so I can try more of their foods.
Drove about 1 hr to eat here. Glad that they open early which is 4PM.
Tried tandoori roti, chettinad chicken, Hyderabad’s dum biryani and rice pudding. Roti and chettinad were top. Biryani was ok ok. Service was good. Wanted to eat pineapple cake but they didn’t have it. Ambience was good too.
