Amazing location of Albert Gallatin's home. Beautifully preserved..giant property with trees, shade..home has guest rooms, entertaining room, large kitchen...very historic
As I've gained more of my own history, I'm more into history in general. Friendship Hill was Albert Gallatin's estate of ~370 acres purchased overlooking the Monongahela River in the late 1700s. Western PA was on the edge of the wilderness practically, and it was to be his escape from the city politics of the building country. His first wife, alas died only 5 months after they married and moved to the country. He later remarried, but his 2nd wife preferred the city. Albert went back into politics and was more influential than many of our founding fathers of whom you HAVE heard. Friendship Hill is a neat place with a somewhat sad story. Look it up. This NPS National Historic Site is worth a stop.
Beautiful park. Nice place to relax and have a picnic.
Well maintained NHS. Visitor center staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Super quiet and serene place with lush greens. This place is located in remote place of PA, so you find no road side noise with almost no population. Perfect place for family picnic.
Interesting little park, with lots of local history. Lots of awesome locations for family photos, especially up by the old mansion. Looks like several miles of hiking trails, but I did not get a chance to try them out, maybe next time. The museum at the mansion has limited hours, so you might want to check on that before you go. Definitely worthwhile, I will be back.
