“This is an absolutely beautiful place to walk and hike. We went the day after a snow with our two dogs, and really enjoyed the scenery. There are numerous paths to choose from, and they were easy to follow. Some trails were a little narrow or had steep drop offs to one side, so exercise caution if you have a pup that pulls too much or small kids. We couldn't do parts of the trails because it was slick and our pup isn't fully trained at 8 months old. Had we been alone, the trails would have been fine. Scenery includes lovely ruins of buildings, canals, and stone walls with ivy and moss growing on them, many small streams with cascading falls, a lovely view of the river with stony islands in the middle, and woods. There are also picnic areas available, though the parking lot adjacent to it is closed in the winter. You can still park further down and walk though. Some areas have a lot of garbage that has washed ashore during the flooding this season as well. Parking and admittance is free. Overall, a beautiful spot to visit.”

“The trails around here are pretty nice along the river. This area is a large park that’s not on google maps, and the Mason-Dixon trail that runs along the river from the Chesapeake Bay all the way up to Harrisburg isn’t on google maps either. Definitely check out the park maps.”

“I really like Codorus state park. They have a great campground with nice sites and good clean bathrooms. They also have a great Marina and some very nice disc golf courses. I enjoy going there and watching the sunset, or just sitting and looking out over the water. Make sure you check it out with your family. 5 stars!”

“This is a unique place in this area. Naturally, the Susquehanna's water level would cutoff access to this island, but because the water level has been altered for the benefit of the nearby dam and had room electric plant, the elevated riverbed becomes an access point for this island. On the shore, the island's terrain juts up suddenly to create a long 15 foot high cliff that reaches about 200 feet inland. The access to the island can be difficult due to a very slight climb up a four foot high rock face (this is at the end of the aforementioned cliff). Overall, the hike is easy and provides unique views if the Susquehanna, Norman Wood Bridge, and nearby islands. If you're feeling adventurous, there is a nearby island separated by a narrow gap (maybe 3-4 feet) of rushing water. I feel it's reachable. Also, since the Susquehanna is a water trail, this is a great place to launch kayaks and camp out for the day, as it can be quite private during weekdays and the hike is fairly flat and accessible from nearby Lock 12. There are also at least two Locks that are fairly well preserved, with one even having a small stream flowing through it. The easiest way to reach it is to park in Lock 12's lower lot and walk towards where the Norman Wood Bridge crosses the river. A trail continues there from other parts of the Lock 12 area and Mill Creek Trail. NOTE : This does seem to be a spot where people with no respect sometimes gather and wreck the place and leave trash. It is somewhat regularly cleaned by volunteers, but as always, leave no trace when visiting. ”

“The Park is very spacious with various playsets for kids to use. They have an area you can have a family and friends BBQ at with plenty of benches. There is also a two rim basketball court, and plenty of parking. My son always has a blast when we take him to this park. Also there is plenty of places to eat and explore nearby.”

“I hike frequently and wanted to explore other parts of Codorus. This place was much better than expected (and way better than Laho trail). It is very beautiful scenery and a great walk. However, somebody needs to work on trash clean-up. Why not take care of the body of water you created?”

“This is a nice scenic trail along that goes along with Muddy Creek. The only bad part is the trail is deteriorating at some points where it’s almost too hazardous to walk. Also, there are no basic amenities, but if your an outdoorsman, this shouldn’t be an issue. You should keep your eye out for side trails that lead you to the creek but be careful since it is very steep and one can get injured very easily.”
