I love going here for an afternoon walk. You can walk down to the river and play in the water, or dip your feet in to cool off. The trail is clear and covered in gravel. You can easily bring a stroller down the trail. There are a few educational stops alomg the way to learn about the history. There is a small fee to enter the park, which goes up around may due to the blooming lollies, which are beautiful! You can go on the website and purchase a pass though that will save you money if you live in the area and plan to visit often.
This place is great. You can take nice walks through their trails (2 in the same direction). There are quite a few interesting historical structures that have been preserved that are a wonder to see. It is not overly busy, other than during Lily season, so it's a great place to go and relax. There is a free to enter unless you have the SC state park pass
One of my favorite places to go, especially in June when the very rare spider lilies are in full bloom. Beautiful hiking along the remarkable Catawba River, and along side of an old canal from the 1700s used to get boats around the shallow shoals. Plenty of picnic tables a nice park store good clean bathrooms, beautiful river frontage, a great pair of playgrounds for the kids, and a nest belonging to a pair of bald eagles that have been there together for well over 10 years. Very peaceful, beautiful and interesting important piece of American history
This is a nice little state park. It's pretty small, but nice nonetheless.
We came to see the spider lilies. We tried to book a kayaking trip, but we tried too late so they were sold out.
We did the hike along the canal and you can see the spider lilies in the middle of it. It was cool to see them, but they were pretty far away, so I definitely want to kayak to see them better. The hike along the canal was a good hike. Short and easy.
It gets pretty crowded as the day gets later and the parking lots overflow. They charge $5 per person to get in on the honor system.
This is a nice place to spend a few hours outside not too far from Charlotte.
A hidden gem in South Carolina! Largest collection of spider lilies in the world! Many walking trails and historical sites. Excellent staff and clean restrooms! Picnic tables all along the river. Excellent place for a day trip!
