A truly affirming and inclusive congregation that has become like family. It has been amazing to see the turnaround from a few years ago, when attendance had dwindled to a dozen on Sundays, to 2020 (well, pre-Covid; we are online at the moment! :-) when we are blessed with a beautifully diverse, comfortably full sanctuary. What a gift to be part of a church where every child of G*d really is welcome.
The most welcoming, warm, and inclusive church I've ever been a part of. This community became family the first day my husband and I walked through the door!
I am so thankful for this inclusive and affirming community of faith at Glendale UMC in Nashville, TN. I grew up in this church and have been so excited to see all of the new life and growth we have experienced over the last couple of years as we have truly become a place for all people - just as they are to begin, restart or deepen their personal faith in God in a community that is safe and full of love. This is what the church should be.
Nearly 2 years ago before relocating to Nashville; I knew I wanted a church home. I hadn't found my niche in Memphis, St. Louis or DC. I had practically been out of church for a good 14 years. When coming back to Tennessee, I knew I had to change that. My heart craved it and my soul yearned it.
My mom suggested I message a church friend who lives in Nashville to ask for a church recommendation. I never knew I'd find the most perfect fit at Glendale United Methodist Church - Nashville. Per 3 of his recommendations, this is where I found myself. I never even considered other churches after the fact. I found my home at Glendale and with the members of our small church.
Just in the small amount of time I've been a member (transferred my membership from my church from Jackson, TN where I was raised), we have gained roughly 30 new members. Our church is open, affirming, and we love everyone no matter where they're from and who they love.
God works within the walls our church, but also outside in the community as well. I am overwhelmingly blessed to have such a wonderful place to worship. This is only reconfirmed everytime I interact with the members I otherwise wouldn't have had the pleasure to get to know.
I am grateful for all of them.
Love this church so much. The people who make up this loving community aren't afraid to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ to love one another. Glendale UMC is a welcoming and affirming refuge for all those whom the church has hurt or failed.
