The shelter aint pretty, but Shay and the 'boys' do their best with a meager budget, and the pressures of "animal control". They became a low-kill shelter a few years ago. So, I support them the best I can. Adopted several cats, helped with placement, a little contribution now and again. I'm helping their critters. You should too. For example consider the sad stories of a cat or dog who one day finds itself in a cage, without it's people - often after a long life indoors - thinking they did something wrong - scared - lonely - future uncertain. Ponder that for a moment. Then act.
We just adopted the sweetest pit mix (who is currently snoring, asleep on my computer case as I type this) at Robertson County Animal Control's shelter. The staff was lovely and took a lot of time with us to find the right dog to add to our home who would get along with our other two dogs. Before I drove out there I saw some of the Google reviews that complained of the smell etc, and yes, the kennel does not smell good. But the dogs were being well cared for, the staff clearly cared about the animals, and seemed to do a great job despite limited resources. I would absolutely adopt from them again in the future. I hope you will consider checking them out as they need great homes for the pets they are working hard to help.
Adopted my new dog from here recently, and from answering my calls and e-mails to the actual adoption process, it was smooth sailing from people who seem to actually care about these animals. It was fast and easy. Even though they’re a government shelter, they are technically no-kill and try hard to do right by these dogs and cats & find them homes. They gave me a massive gift basket with very helpful supplies for my new dog when I took her home, too.
