Very neat park! I didn't know Franklin had such a strategic battle here in the Civil War. We actually met a man here who gave us alot of information on the times and the battle. He knew his stuff! I'm pretty sure he was a 'daughter of the __________' who took care of the park! The map at the top of the stairs is something to see. It is hard for me to imagine HOW the terrain, the times, the killing that went on here transpired!!! So sad.
This a beautifully simple park. Plenty of history.
Winstead Hill Confederate Memorial Park is a great place to visit. It has many educational historical markers representing states throughout Dixie. There is a nice view from near the top. Thanks to all those who help preserve this park in dedication to those who served and were killed defending Franklin, Tennessee, and the south.
It is not a very long trail. It's very very relaxing, and we enjoyed watching the sun go down but we sat on one of the park benches with our dog. If you just want a quick jaunt outside, but you want to stay close to home, it is a great place to go. The Outhouse bathroom is decently clean, and at the hand sanitizing foam is always stocked. No need to go all out, some tennis shoes and sweats will do you fine.
