I had a great experience getting my Private Pilot completed with Black Hound. All staff members were very personable and they are collectively a good group of people. In fact, I had a deadline to meet and Marty worked with me all throughout the holidays to ensure I was prepared and ready for my checkride. Talk about customer service! Not only is the team great, but the aircraft are as well. The planes are well maintained, and I had a blast learning how to fly on 172JD. If you're looking for a school house, go with these guys. I highly recommend them and cannot imagine myself having a better experience elsewhere.
I've just acquired my PPL after having trained for 6 months, and I am so happy that I chose Black Hound Aviation for my flight instruction. I live in Austin and could have gone to flight schools closer to me at Austin Bergstrom Airport, but I am very happy that I chose Black Hound and made the short drive to San Marcos 3 or 4 days a week.
Their fleet of three Cessna 172s (and a Piper Lance for high performance and complex endorsements) are meticulously maintained. Safety is one part of the core values at Black Hound, and every lesson I had with them incorporated this as well as risk management, starting on Day 1. Safety on the ground and in flight is the foundation for each lesson at Black Hound.
Their instructors are also very effective and motivating, and they understand how the learning process works. My primary instructor was Katie, but I've also worked with Robert, Rachel, Marty, Mike, and Jessica. They were very organized and had a clear learning objective to accomplish before the start of each lesson. Learning how to fly is a very difficult skill to learn and doesn't come naturally to most people. When I was having doubts about my ability to pass the check ride towards the end of my PPL training, Marty listened to my worries very carefully until the very end, and he then imparted some very wise words that made me laugh and gave a boost to my confidence. Thank you for taking that call, Marty! And thank you to all the other instructors at Black Hound.
Finally, you will receive very good instruction here that will allow you to pass your written, oral, and practical exams. Ultimately on the day of your check ride, your examiner will evaluate your skills and knowledge using the ACS (Airman Certification Standards). Every single ground and flight lesson I had prepared me for the day of my check ride, and I was able to pass on my first attempt. A large part of my success came from my consistency, discipline, and commitment, but I also owe a debt of gratitude for Black Hound for preparing to become a skilled and safe private pilot.
My journey has only begun and I still have a lot of learning to do, but I am so happy that my aviation adventures have started at Black Hound.
Great instructors and Marty is the most helpful guy you could work with when it comes to this stuff! I’m no pilot, but going on a discovery flight with him will be one of my greatest memories of all time. I’d give you guys 6 stars if I could!
I have been flying with Black Hound for over a year and I love it! The instructors are kind, flexible, and skilled pilots. If you are looking to start flying, I highly recommend Black Hound. I always have a great time during lessons and have always felt safe. I have flown with both Robert Greene and Sebastion DaSo and both are excellent pilots!
I have been flying with BlackHound aviation for over a year and I can say there's truly no one else around who does it quite the same. For me finding a flexible instructor was the most important thing and Robert Greene embodies this. He's ready to fly at the drop of a hat day or night. Blackhounds program makes it comprehensive to get the basics and build quickly on your skills. The main thing that makes Blackhound stand out is the quality of aircraft. There has never been a time during a preflight inspection where something that didn’t look right wasn’t addressed immediately, and usually, preemptively dealt with. Their quality control allows you peace of mind to focus on your training and do it right. To those seeking to get their license for leisure or to go on professionally, I would highly recommend having the money at hand and trusting it with these guys. The ability to start your training and keep to it regularly is imperative for retaining information, completing your license promptly, and saving you money in the long run. These guys are here to help and will do all they can to make you comfortable in your abilities and realize your potential in the sky.
