470th District Court

I have had the honor of practicing in the 470th District Court since the creation of the court. I own a family law firm and this court is one of 3 family law exclusive courts in Collin County. Judge Emily Miskel has been the judge of this court since it was created. Judge Miskel is one of the smartest legal professionals I have ever known. She knows the law extremely well - and better yet, she follows the law! If you know the law, you may not like the law, but you can at least rely on the fact that Judge Miskel will follow it! And that's what you want with a judge. She is extremely consistent and will rule based on the facts that are presented to her. She listens extremely well. I really hope she stays on this bench for a long time. I read through a lot of the 1-star reviews that clearly were left by people who lost in her court. Unfortunately, that is the nature of the court system. But the best that you can ask for - consistency, knowledge, reliability - those are the factors present in Judge Miskel. She's so smart and so good that I think we will lose her eventually to some amazing court appointment like to the Supreme Court one day. But in the mean-time we are blessed to have her. The court staff - bailiff Kris Lea is extremely nice, courteous and accommodating. The Court Reporter, Tanner Feast, is always nice, courteous, accurate and fast with a transcript request. And the court coordinator Stacey Samples is very organized, efficient, courteous, and extremely helpful regarding scheduling issues. The court has a lot of harmony and works well together as a team. This court runs the way I wish every family law court that we ever go to should.
