Short walk down a sketchy trail and you are at the river. It is shallow and we walked around in the clear cold water with the kids hunting some tiny frogs. Took some great pictures. On the way back up we found a friendly armadillo. I tried to catch him but he chose freedom and charged at my wife to make a clean escape.
Very cool spot. It’s nestled In The woods on a quite trail. Highly recommend checking it out. The water was like 55F in the middle of summer amazing.
For a short trail, probably less than 2 miles out and back, it offers beautiful scenery, variable elevations, and lots to explore! There is an easy level main trail, but I began on the rougher back trail nearest the river at the corner of the parking lot and was not disappointed. It was far more challenging than the flat smoothed path at the main trailhead. If you take this more difficult back trail, be prepared for some rock climbing, a bit of mud, and a couple water crossings. I spent a full 2 hours on this trail mainly from stopping to let my dog get wet in the river and to simply take my time and enjoy the views.
Hiked the Guadalupe South River Nature Trail, extremely well groomed trail but challenging with a lot of elevation changes. May only be about 2 miles out & back, but took me over 2 hours just enjoying the beauty of the area.
Great easy trail, plenty of elevation changes. Trail follows the river, its clean and well defined with alot of great views of the river, plenty of side trails that lead down to the river to do some swimming or fishing. One section of the trail brings you to some beautiful large Cypress trees. Plenty of benches along the way and built in stairways. A good 45min-60min hike.
