I went to school here back when river crossing was just completed and all the rich families started moving out to the country. Spring branch middle school was built first to handle the growing population so my classmates from elementary were all split up between there and the older smithson valley middle school, majority rich kids going to the newer school of course. I remember there were many issues at spring branch with bullying because of the large economic gap, I knew several kids who were moved to home schooling or another school entirely to escape the torment. My cousin went to spring branch as a Tom boy country girl and came out a preppy cheerleading brat; if you don’t conform there they will eat you alive. Smithson valley middle school was entirely different, country was cool and people were more relaxed...it’s where all the “lake trash” went to school. The high school was better because we were blended together again and balanced out, there was the small Barbie doll click (they are everywhere and in every generation) but cowboys, trucks and sporty girls were cooler cuz there were more of us so the barbies didn’t rule the school. Now that canyon lake high school is in the mix it sounds like history is repeating itself. So sad, sv was such a bad ass high school in my day. No suicides while I was there.
SVHS is a wonderful school with an excellent staff, great dual credit opportunities, and each teacher is available before or after school for one on one help or questions from the students. My child is involved in so many clubs and organizations and has had the opportunity to make friends with many people. Just take a look in the year book to see what a diverse school this is, and NO you don't have to be wealthy to be involved in clubs and make friends.
A bunch of memories have been made here I transfered back over here my sophomore year and met a ton of new friends and family ... the band program is spatacular! Highly recommended to attend Smithson Valley High School
