Fun place to chill, not as well maintained as when I was younger but still a very pretty area with good hiking nearby
We actually hiked Galena Trail which is just about one hundred yards north of Callahan Park. First time on this trail. It follows the a river and has lots of shade. After about a 3 or 4 mile walk we ended up at a fish hatchery about 0.4 miles after crossing mount rose highway. Great hike mostly shaded through a golf course and some beautiful mountain homes. The grade is between 5 and 10 degrees through large pines and some small groves of aspen so not too difficult but enough to get some exercise. Highly recommended.😀
Excellent, little-known park! There is a great group area, a couple of grassy areas, and a park for smaller kids. The grassy areas are perfect for playing catch, frisbee, and games like that.
There are some trails in the area, so bigger kids can explore a bit. There are a lot of trees, so it's shady when hot.
There are two downsides that painfully make this park a four instead of a five (for me, at least): there can be quite a few yellow jackets, especially in the group area. Boo. Second, parking is a bit sparse. This is not a big deal.
This great park is definitely underutilized.
Amazing and caring Counselor!
Our temple had an event at this park and it was truly breathtaking. Even though this park is in one of the furthest south places of Reno I would still visit here again as my daughter really enjoyed how beautiful this park was. She was very taken, as was I, by the little stream running through the park.
We had a great time doing the trail inside Callahan Park. It's an 3 hour programme in all, going on the trail and coming all the way back. You get amazing views of the forest, river and more. We spent some time sitting on the bench by the gushing river and painted for some time. All in all, a refreshing morning.
