Informative and fun place to visit. Be sure to get at least the one day pass in order to get the full effect of the many docents and role players throughout the site. You can park and walk for free, but you need a pass to enter most of the historic buildings. See artisans at work: printers, blacksmiths, carpenters, bakers, homeowners, etc etc. You also get to ride the shuttle buses with a paid ticket. You can expect to do a lot of walking. NOTE: MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS are the days off for all of the main restaurants and some of the historic homes. You can take the shuttle or walk to the market area which is technically outside the historic district, and find some restaurants open. Also, if you are active, retired or a military vet, you will get discounts on admission and in any of the merchant stores. There's also a USO style building with free coffee and drinks. If you have a challenge coin, bring it and they will trade it for one of theirs. There's a wall full of ones that vets have brought in. All of this will be explained by the friendly ticket agents at the welcome center. You can avoid waiting in line by buying tickets online, but we had a lot more information from the live folks. All of the period costumed staff throughout the site are more than willing to assist with any questions you might have.
I’ve been here several times, and love it every time. We tried to do the musket shooting but it got cancelled twice. The last time we came we did it and made some great memories. You have to pick and choose what you want to see, especially when it’s blistering hot outside. Nighttime was especially pretty with the limited lighting, we had fun using the night vision features on our phones.
Stopped in here when arriving for our vacation. I was impressed with visitor center. The exterior is very well designed and has informative displays and plaques. There is a very cool water fountain out front and a 3D map. The inside lobby has a store and nice displays. The bathrooms are very clean. There is a large terrain map in the lobby
Just the existence of this place and what it stands for gets it 3 stars alone. Great experience, however many opportunities for improvement. They need to add some hands on activities for kids. Some larger trees would be nice for shade. I'm posting one photo of where a man was simply showing kids how to do origami in the shade for kids to follow along with him in making a boat. My kids really enjoyed this. There needs to be another 4-5, similar hands-on stations throughout the resort for kids to do. Just simple things like this go a long way toward full family enjoyment. The resort appeals to those with a desire to be acquainted with our history up close and it does the job on that. The speech by Thomas Jefferson was fantastic and gives real perspective to a time that most of us have forgotten. It was very hot in July so recommend taking an umbrella. Also food prices are astronomically high so pack a lunch and carry a backpack. Artisans are great and the workers have tremendous attitudes despite they have to repeat the same information dozens of times each day.
Sadly our outing was wet due to the rain but still enjoyable. We packed umbrellas and I had waterproof footwear which helped. You can literally walk all day and take in everything their is to see and hear. Pleasant and knowledgeable folks throughout shared the history and many interesting facts. Try to plan for at least 2 days to properly take in everything if so desired.
Great teachers because I go there
