I drove from Houston to get my trucks transmission fixed here. I did my research, landed on James, and it was a great decision. He will walk you through your repair, answer your questions, and recommend options if you want them. I got my 48RE upgraded with much better parts than stock, at a good price, by a reputable guy. Highly recommend, it was a very good experience.

James builds the best transmission out there! He has built for two of my personal trucks, a 48re and 68re and they have been outstanding! James is a straight shooter, he is going to tell you like it is and he also is going to give you upgrades and the few little tweaks to help your transmission to run hundreds of thousands of miles. He’s honest, very fair in pricing and extremely knowledgeable. I will never take any of my trucks anywhere else.

Phenomenal experience. James knows the 48RE incredibly well. Took the time to understand symptoms, completely honest in his assessment, and kept me informed throughout the diagnostics. In 2009 I purchased a used 2003 Dodge Cummins truck with a known-bad engine and searched for the best shop in my area for the repairs. As a long time automotive technician, as well as an FAA licensed aircraft mechanic and Aircraft Inspector for 40+ years, I wanted to find the best shop to work on my diesel engine. Several recommendations pointed to James Northum, so I visited and spoke at length with him. We "hit it off" and I concluded that he was the one to use to handle a complete powerplant and transmission rebuild. He provided outstanding work and service at a reasonable price, and was very easy to work with. Since then, I have both consulted with him, and used him for further work on my truck, and in fact when a part failed, and stranded me on a weekend with an RV in tow, James actually answered his phone at home, assisted with getting my truck to his shop, and got me back on our trip in jig time. This is truly outstanding service! When I sold a Powerstroke diesel vehicle I owned to someone, I recommended James without reservation, and the new owner and I became friends, in no small part due to their happiness with Jame's service on that truck. I now operate an independent import and domestic repair shop in Washington State,, but just last summer got to recommend an RV club member to James, and on his cross-country trip detoured to Midlothian just to see James with his truck, and was not surprised when Don, the club member contacted me to thank me, and report that he, too, was delighted with James and his shop. I am a VERY critical customer when it comes to letting anyone work on my vehicles, and frankly would not want ME for a customer, but I cannot say enough to recommend James to anyone needing work on their vehicle. Good man, great technician, and outstanding service. One cannot ask more!
