This is by far my favorite place on the whole peninsula. I know they're very often I love it there. The beaches for the most part is usually pretty clean. there usually isn't a whole lot of people out there is in Galveston. great place for some alone time or family time or even walk your dog. sometimes I just go there Park roll the windows down and relax.
This is the place to take small kids. The waves are tame and there are usually sea shells to discover. Kayaking couldn't be easier. There's a sunken ship within reach too.
Great place to camp for a night if you keep a few aspects in mind.
Beach is very flat as such camp as high as possible, wind picks up at night as such make sure your tent is good secured and of solid construction ( not like our WM junk which collapsed in middle of night above us) .
Beside that, drop dead gorgeous location.
I wanted to try beach camping and Bolivar Flats looked perfect. All it took was a $10 parking permit (available at most stores in the area) I didn't even need to reserve a site. I just drove along the beach and picked a spot I liked. There was a couple of RVs but after sun down the beach pretty much cleared out. It was nice and relaxing which is what I was after. I'd recommend bringing a canopy or tarp setup for shade bc there isn't any provided. There isn't any facilities but there is a reasonably clean portable restroom available. Bring water as there isn't any faucets or drinking fountains. All that stuff is available at many beaches in the area but I wanted to come here to get away from all that, it's primitive nature at it's best. I've been back twice and can't wait to go again.
Had a great time. The beach was not overly crowded. It was sunny but not hot- there was a good wind.
