I don't like that they shut down all access to 90% of the picnic & camping spaces on October 1st?? Right when the weather gets nice. Literally 3 picnic table areas are accessible after that date. I guess until April.
American Legion Post 522 Easter egg hunt.
Overall a nice place to get some free camping. I arrived in November of 2023, and by then, much of the campground had closed up for the winter, but there were still a few RV sites open. There's one large site completely shaded and looked very relaxing, but because I rely on solar panels, I couldn't use it. The road in is all paved, and easy enough for any sized RV. There are trash dumpsters, restrooms, and picnic tables. The dumpster area looked messy with trash laying around and an old mattress on the ground. It looks like locals tend to use it as a free dump. The camp host does a routine patrol about every 3:00pm, and there is also an Army Corps of Engineers patrol that comes around every week.
There is no dump station here, but you can pay $10.00 at Lake Whitney State Park the next campground south, and they'll let you dump and refill there.
It's just a cool little out of the way spot to walk around, take a picnic and watch the geese and ducks swim around. Watch the geese though, they're kinda shady and will come up to you honking. It was a bit too cold for me to do anything but take a walk around the lakeside to the boat ramp and docks. A friend showed me this place today. I never knew this park was out here but I'll come back on warmer weather and try to see more of the area.
The park is beautiful, very well-kept and maintained with rocky cliffs, limestone formations, manmade dam, hiking trails, camping, public restrooms. This place has it all. I will plan a longer visit next time.
