We spent a day at the lake walking and photographing wildlife. The sidewalk-like hiking trails were exactly what we needed, since my partner's back injuries limit his ability to do rough terrain these days.
Really enjoyed our visit. The Ranger at the front gate was friendly and informative. The beach was clean. The bathrooms were tidy and stocked.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the $7 per person cost. That would be prohibitive for a lot of folks, and will keep our visits limited. The State of Texas could do better on pricing.
It is beautiful, peaceful and wonderful. I saw huge birds circling a field in search of prey. A dear walked 100 feat away from me by my campsite. I got a disability pass that gave me $3 off of the $7 admission. Camping is only $15. So I only paid $19. They put me near the bathrooms. There are not a lot of people because of the rain. Because the weather is nice this is much better than a motel room to me!
My daughter, grandsons and I visited Ray Roberts Lake on Labor Day. The Park Ranger we worked with was very informative and friendly. We picked up our Texas State Parks Junior Ranger books and the Texas State Parks Passport Books. We are excited to start collecting our stamps for this passport!! We hiked two of the trails: the Lost Pines Trail and the Randy Bell Scenic Trail. The Lost Pines trail was very sandy, but good views of the lake! We really enjoyed the Randy Bell trail since it was paved the whole way, but there were not really good views of the lake! I would definitely recommend either trail and will return again sometime!
Get early to the tables because they fill up fast. Love the hiking trails but they get muddy fast. BEST lake to go boating but stick to the south side. The secret beach is nice too!
This was my first time camping. We reserved a primitive camping spot at the hawthorn circle close by the lake and has a firewood grill. We went for a swim in the lake in the evening. This place has a water tap nearby for bathing as well. We could also spot some deer walking through our camp site. Overall it was a very good experience.
