During the Valentine's winter storm of 2021 the San Gabriel River froze over at Tejas park, and we went skating!
Exceptionally clean park and trails! Be careful, you can get lost on the trails. Verizon cell service doesn't work here which is odd. My Metro/T-mobile had service the entire time. Some of the trails aren't any bigger than game trails, so be careful you don't lose your way. onX hunt app (paid version) had the trails marked.
Super clean great place to go to. Had a wonderful time on the hiking trails with the kiddos. Nice spacious fields, wonderful tree lined hiking trails and plenty of birds to listen to and watch.
Parking lot/campground serves as a great starting point for hiking trails on either side of the North San Gabriel River and upper Lake G'town. A concrete, low water crossing bridge provides access to the trails for hiking, fishing from the limestone banks, swimming, mountain and fat tire bicycling, and kayaking or canoeing. And i have seen climbers also. Several campsites are available for overnight or longer stays, with level tent sites, picnic tables, and fire pits. Water is also available from a faucet, as are pit restrooms. Nature abounds along the trails with varied terrain, from open savannas and woods, stream crossings and stair-step climbs. Birds are everywhere, so pack the binoculars in your backpack, and bring a good walking stick. History at the park site include markers describing native American encampments and Anglo settlements (digging or removing artifacts is strictly forbidden with huge fines). Overall, a great place to take the whole family as the trails are typically wide (not paved) and easy hikes, and great during any season. Be aware that hunting is allowed in this area.
