My child was at the Meridell Neurobehavioral Unit for 3 months in late 2022. Meridell did a wonderful job of stabilizing my child - the psychiatrist on staff there (the kids call him Dr. C) has years of experience with this complex, neurodiverse population, and I am so grateful he was able to figure out the right medication combination to stabilize my child’s mood, after so many other professionals had failed. Our therapist was insightful and supportive and really connected with my child, and the teachers at the on-campus school (Ki Charter Academy) got them interested in education again and attending classes after months of school refusal. The first 3-4 weeks there my child screamed and complained about everything and begged to come home. However, once they were more stable from the medication, they bought in to the programming and really made great strides. Meridell is not the “cushiest” place we’ve ever been, but it is the most competent place we have been, and it is the place that finally made the difference we needed so that my child could come home and live safely and productively. Don’t be put off by the negative online reviews - no place is perfect, but my child was well cared for and treated at Meridell.
Our daughter spent several months at Meridell, and my husband and I are so grateful for the help she received there. She had a top notch therapist, excellent teachers, and the staff were fantastic. There were always fun activities to be involved in, but also a high level of oversight and emphasis on personal responsibility. We appreciated the coaching in coping skills that our daughter received, instead of the over reliance on medication that was our unfortunate experience with a previous facility.
