Had a great time canoeing with some friends. The boat rental prices were cheaper than I had anticipated at $10/hour per canoe. The river onto which the boats launch is surrounded by a beautiful forest. Many paths and other places to explore branch off from this river. We enjoyed exploring the different areas of the river, especially because it had just recently flooded. I saw some people fishing while we were there, I would love to come back and try it myself.
Just an amazing place. There are so many trails! We camp with two kids and can easily use the Bath houses, fish, canoe in the reservoir, and walk/bike/scooter the camping area. We’ve always found the clientele respectful and quiet and the hosts we’ve had have kept the loops so clean and organized. The pools are so much fun (when they’re open) and perfect for small kids and adults.
The biggest state park in Virginia, Pocahontas has many wonderful trails for endless hiking, lots of fun canoeing, nature education, a big swimming pool, holiday events, and much more to discover. So happy I live nearby! Perfect for families and anybody who enjoys the outdoors. You'll never run out of things to do.
Ranger Brown was absolutely incredible! I pulled up to pay my parking fee, never been to the state park, and she was an absolute joy. Bright, spirited, and very informative, I just know the park is lucky to have her. She completely planned my day with great sites to see and hikes to take. I am so appreciative and can’t wait to come back :)
Beautiful, very clean state park. Nice, well spaced sites, quiet. Some information isn't easily available. The maps don't show the lakes so we had to drive around to find them. No distance information to get to things. No idea where the camp host was; no signs, nothing in the campground handouts. An employee cut the same area of grass twice in less than 24 hours near our site, which made no sense. It would be helpful if more roads had posted names. If you can figure things out on your own you'll be set.
