A friend recommended Joyce to me when she saw how stressed out I had become trying to make decisions as health care proxy to my 90 year old mom after she had a stroke. Joyce was amazing, and she coached me through mom's hospital discharge planning and placement into skilled nursing. My mom, a nurse and nursing instructor all of her life, was skeptical about what help a patient advocate could offer. When Joyce met us at the skilled nursing facility for discussions with the care team about treatment options, we both saw immediately how helpful it was to have an advocate at your side in that moment. Her knowledge from years of nursing combined with a deep understanding of what care should look like in a skilled nursing setting and ultimately, in hospice was invaluable. She led me through the process with care and concern and upon the conclusion of our engagement, she provided excellent referrals to other providers that I might need going forward, including the incredible hospice agency that saw my mom through to the end. As devastating as the experience was, it was such a comfort to have Joyce with me to explain things I didn't understand and to help me make the most difficult decisions I have ever faced in my life.
