My wife and I were visiting the Virginia Beach area and just happened to choose to attend the worship service at Lifehouse Newport News. We appreciated the pastor personally greeting us and taking time to speak with us when we entered the seating area. It definitely seemed to be a very diverse congregation--young and old, people of different racial backgrounds. We were also warmly greeted when we first entered the theater, which on Sunday mornings becomes a church building. The pastor's message was excellent and very relevant, dealing with the topic of division and dysfunction--in our country and in the world in general, but sadly, also in the church where people supposedly are taught to love one another! People often complain that the "church is full of hypocrites" which is actually true, because no one is perfect, and walking into a church building doesn't cause people to be perfect. If we lived in this area we would gladly take time to be more involved in this church because people are taught to be real, which means no one has it altogether, and that people need others to help them be the best that they can be and that is the reason for getting together as a church! Should we pass this way again, we will definitely attend the worship service at Lifehouse. I want to specifically thank Kimberly, an older African American lady who was very kind to my wife and I.

July 17, 2022 Second Visit Comments:

My wife and I decided to come to Newport News again so we chose to visit this church again. Before we even went inside, in the parking lot, a nice couple, both Air Force veterans, made us feel welcome. Once we were seated, the lead pastor greeted us warmly again, having recalled that we visited once before. This group of church people seemed very diverse our first visit and that hadn't changed at all. In his good message, the pastor spoke about wisdom, which he indicated was less about what we know (or think we know) and more about what we do, how we live our lives. The pastor did not quote this Bible verse in his message, but I think it is relevant today--"Professing to be wise, they became fools..." I don't need to say where this verse is in the Bible or explain the context. Anyone who really wants to know can just ask Professor Google! We appreciate Susan, the "Iowa transplant", whom we had a pleasant conversation with in the parking lot after the service!

Everyone is welcome and come as you are aren't just statements but actions that Lifehouse encompasses. From the smiles, hugs, high-fives, and elbow taps as you come in, to the energetic worship team, to the passionate pastor there isn't much of a chance for you not to feel welcomed and loved. They offer nursery, preschool, elementary and youth services each Sunday. If you are looking for a church who will love and accept you exactly where you are in your journey right now, this is the church for you!

I have never felt more at home at a church than I have at Lifehouse. This church truly loves, welcomes, and honors all people, and you can see this from how diverse the church is in all things (age, race, gender, backgrounds, etc).

The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming, and the services are relevant to today's culture while also being biblically sound and thorough, not watered down. The kids' areas are run by amazing, committed people who truly love kids and their parents and want to see them grow in their faith. My daughter used to have a hard time being dropped off in the nursery, but the volunteers have always been so patient and awesome with her, and she has grown to love them, especially Ms. Madison, Ms. Jo, and Ms. Alicia!

Since coming here, I have seen firsthand how committed Lifehouse is to the people there. They truly love them and want to see them heal, grow, and flourish, not just in life, but in their faith and walk with Jesus, and that has been true for my family and me.

When I think of my experience at Lifehouse I can only truly think of the word community. When you step up to the front of the theater you are greeted by a group of warm and joy filled people who seem genuinely excited to see you. The energy in the building is palpable and you can really tell everyone loves one another. The kids areas are energetic, safe, and clean. The first time guest process was simple and I felt cared for. The music was masterful and the sermon felt genuine and perfect for what I needed this week. I left feeling truly wanted, seen, and Loved. Lifehouse is exactly what I have been looking for and I highly recommend it.

From the moment I walked into Lifehouse, I knew that this church was different. They have always welcomed me with open arms and warm smiles, they have created a safe judge-free space for me to worship, and Pastor John's messages continue to inspire and challenge me to be better. But most of all, when I attend Lifehouse I feel like I'm a part of a family. I can tell that I'm not just another random person in a large crowd, but that they truly care who I am and how I'm doing. I grew up in a very family-oriented church, so moving away was hard, but finding Lifehouse has allowed me to feel that same love and compassion.
