Especially the slew of knowledge of African Americans, whom shared not only a huge part in history here in the Hilton Village area but also and currently is the backbone of History in the City of Newport News. Wonderful place to curl up to a good book & cool off on a smoldering hot summer's day. “I don't even want to write a review...because half of me wants to keep HOPE Thrift as my little gem and secret. But the other half wants to encourage any thrifters to just GO THERE! The nicest staff ever. Clean, always a rotating selection. Every month they have colored tags that are 50% off - I believe they change the 1st of the month. Interesting jewelry pieces. Furniture is well made and a reasonable price. The clothing is my favorite - I have found so many pieces still with tags, many of them designer. The funkiest coats and vintage items. My favorite thrift store by far here in Virginia.”

“This is an adorable bookstore with a large children's section and a growing YA/adult section. They also have a collection of toys and novelty items. I stopped by when I was on a business trip. The people running the store were very polite. One employee with curly brown hair was especially helpful and gave me a few book recommendations. If you're traveling and want to grab a souvenir, or if you're just looking for your next great read-I'd definitely recommend this adorable bookstore.”

“The Yorktown bookshop is a family favorite. My kids are all grown but we all still love gathering Yorktown and the bookstore is a central location for us to meet because it's the one place we know that we will all want to go before leaving to go home. The assortment and the changing inventory keeps us coming back. We have some treasures that we have found there and the prices are very reasonable, which we didn't expect considering its location. Very friendly staff. The owner and his daughter make you feel welcome and are quick to answer any questions that you might have. They are very knowledgeable about inventory and just very personable.”

“This was my first time here, so these are my first impressions. First, the store is large and is packed with merchandise! Second, it had great tunes going and incense burning. Reminded me of record stores and head shops of my youth. Third, I went to buy records and their selection was AMAZING! I spent an hour in there looking through stuff, and if I wasn't hungry for lunch, easily could have spent another hour! Prices were comparable to other record stores. “This is one of those increasingly rare bookstores that will reward you if you take some time to look. There is a lot of local and military history, but also just about everything else too, from old science fiction magazines to gorgeous like-new hardbacks, and if you go to the back there is a fantastic collection of art books and a chair and lamp for if you want to sit and read for a while. The proprietor will help you get to books in the stacks or on the top shelf. Ignore the reviewers who complain that it's disorganized. Poor things, they don't know how to look around, enjoy discovering hidden treasures, maybe even finding what they didn't know they were looking for.”
