An idyllic and beautiful getaway in the south of Whidbey Island. It brings to mind images of Tolkien's Rivendell. Lush forest with wonderfully maintained grounds and trails winding through it. Definitely a must visit location.
The institute is a non profit that offers retreats and has its grounds open to the public. This review is for the trails visited though after eyeing the cabins and the grounds, I'm looking at signing up for a retreat.
Went here for a group hike and it was a lovely, relaxed walk through multiple short trails. Mostly gentle incline except for the steep Goat trail.
Lots of tree roots to watch out for to avoid tripping on the hike but other than that, its safe for older and the littlest of hikers.
No restrooms onsite but downtown Langley is just a few minutes drive and has public toilets.
Recommended for families with little kids, older adults, and individuals looking for a meditative hiking experience. Dogs are not welcome on the trail. Plenty of parking available.
Yes the labyrinth is lovely, as are the grounds & cabins. I volunteered to pull weeds, and met 3 kind volunteers and Jules and Marta, our leaders. A healing experience for sure:)
The Whidbey Institute is beyond words in excellence. They create an environment of beauty , love and healing. Their buildings are designed to fit in with Nature in order that a person can feel the love of and be embraced By the beauty of nature .Each time I go there I am sad to leave and when I return it's like coming home .
