My 58-year-old friend who was licensed as a CMA had a heart attack followed by a stroke. As her AIN after her stay in the hospital and nursing facility it was up to me to find her care in an Adult Family Home (AFH). It was important to her and me that she was close to family and to me. I discovered Choice One Care through a third party. Upon visiting Choice One, the caregiver staff and management, I made arraignments for her to be moved in. The home was beautiful, clean and the grounds were park like. She was an outdoors person, I knew she would love the park like back yard.
During her stay with Choice One the caregiver staff was friendly, caring and most importantly, she thought they were also. It was important to me that she was satisfied with the staff, because that is what she did for a living, care for people in a nursing facility.
Everyone on the management staff were so helpful. Always available to me for questions and concerns. My friends’ needs were always at the top of their list. If, in the future, I need an AFH I will be contacting Choice One.
Placing a loved one in long term care is a difficult decision, at least it certainly was for me. After evaluating a number of potential placements, I chose Choice One Adult Family Home. It was a highly positive experience as Choice One was committed to be with us for the duration. The resident manager and caregivers were outstanding in how they cared for my loved one (LO) who was in very advanced stages of his disease. They were invested in every aspect of his daily life. Medical instructions were followed even in complicated situations, meds were administered right and timely, meals were freshly prepared meet my LO's needs, his room and bathroom were clean and orderly, the overall facility was clean and orderly, laundry done every day, he was always bathed and in clean clothing. Beyond these things, caregivers encouraged interaction among residents in the common area of the home - I saw the meal table as a gathering place for those who were able/chose to join. I felt free to bring any questions or concerns to the resident manager. I felt I was part of a team who was committed to providing the best for my LO in his final chapter. I was always informed, and I didn't have to oversee their work. I received positive input about the staff and the facility from hospice nurses as the visited the facility often. In closing I will say everyone at Choice One showed genuine caring for my LO. It brought quality to his life and I know he felt their caring attitude. He was blessed for having spent his time in a facility with the quality of care that he found at Choice One.
