I am currently a sophomore at Yellowwood and this is my second year and I have never loved school as much as I love Yellowwood! I struggled socially at a public school with bullying and being left out which made my mental health bad, but with Yellowwood I genuinely look forward to coming to school. The teachers make a big effort to form good relationships with their students. They always ask how you are and they want an honest answer. And if you are having a bad day or something is bothering you, you can talk to the teachers about it and they will listen and help you work through it. They won't just say ok now let's work if you tell them you are not ok. They will talk to you and help you and there is so much support from all the staff there! There's been multiple times where I haven't been feeling great mentally and I have gotten so much support from my teachers and other staff. It means so much knowing that they care and want to see you thrive.
You can take group classes or 1:1 classes at Yellowwood and you can request certain subjects to be individual if it's a difficult subject for you. The biggest group class is only 3-4 kids at most. I personally have found the small group classes to be very helpful in connecting with other kids and teachers because it's not like you are just sitting at your desks and raising your hand and all that. Everyone is sitting at a table together when the teacher is teaching and you can ask questions at any time. It makes it a lot less anxiety provoking since everyone is just talking in a group together.
It feels very welcoming that way and you don't have to worry about raising your hand or having the teacher just single you out. I also have found the group classes to be a great way to make friends. Since it is a smaller school and some (or all) classes are 1:1 it can be difficult to meet people, but even if you take just one group class, you will most likely end up being friends with the people in that class. And there is no social pressure which was a big worry for me. Everyone there is dealing with their own struggles so nobody judges you if you are struggling. Since group classes are so small, it's much easier to connect with people and talk. I had 3 group classes last year and I became friends with every person from my classes and I still talk to them this year!
And if you don't have group classes there is also opportunities to meet people during clubs or homeroom which everyone has every day (Mon Wed Fri is clubs and Tues and Thur is homeroom) for 20 minutes.
The staff really care about your mental health and they want to see you do well and will do whatever they can to help you. I really love Yellowwood so much and I am so grateful for all the support I've gotten from them!

I was looking at a drawing that my son made approximately 6 or so years ago.In it, there was a structure..labeled 'SCHOOL".Inside of this was a rudimentary figure portraying hinself.SDly, the figure had a very mRge CTOWJ,and TeRs ( a few) coming from eyes.Tellowwod Academy has done SO MANY pizzas li give things for my son....where do I start? 1.He looks forward to going to school now.2.He has not been bullied or abused,by any children or ZTAFF( Sadly, ery common in those who choose careers working with" vulnerable populations of al types( research based PDF ) source...
And may many more.will provide names upon request. His artistic and creative abilities..i.e. Music, and Art have been a tremendous source of accomplishment for him, and the academic structure must be great as well, as he received an A plus( not verified to me...but posible) and he greatly enjoys social studies, etc. He was also able to complete the UW ID tech camp last summer, with non spe trump kids...but says it's too easy .My sincere appreciation to all of the hardworking staff and all benefactors of the school that has made a HUGE POSITI E ,EVEN SPIRITUAL CHANGE in my so s self confidence.Thankyou again, B.M.H.
